Overview

This is a pet project that we made during the covid-19 pandemic.

Everyone has personal problems, but sometimes some of them feel afraid to talk about personal issues that they experience with their closest people such as family, friends, and even parents for various reasons such as fear of being belittled, weighing on their minds, etc. However, if a problem is felt for a long time, it will not be suitable for us. It will cause us to experience anxiety disorders and, worse, will cause depression.

Sometimes people who have experienced the same problem can give the best advice and be more understanding when we are going through difficult times in our lives, even though they are strangers.

Objectives

  • Do you connect everyone who doesn’t know each other securely to communicate and support each other?
  • How can I help them reduce their stress levels due to the life problems they are experiencing?

Hypothesis

1. People will be uncomfortable when a stranger suddenly tells personal problems; I hypothesize that people will be more comfortable telling stories to others when they already know the person a little.

2. Being afraid can be underestimated if we share personal matters with a close person; I hypothesize that it is easier to tell stories with strangers because we won’t see them again.

3. The personal issue is privacy, and many people do not want it to be publicized. My hypothesis is to make all users anonymous to tell their stories freely.

4. People close to us already know our character, and the possibility could be biased; I hypothesize that strangers do not have a track record of our lives so they can be more objective.

5. When there is a problem, we tend to feel stressed, I hypothesize that they can reduce stress by doing a hobby they like.

User research

We created questions for user research based on our hypothesis to validate that hypothesis.

People will be uncomfortable when a stranger suddenly tells personal problems. We hypothesized that people will be more comfortable telling stories to others when they already know the person a little.

To obtain a better picture of how the on-demand app should look like, we analyzed some non-local competitors which gave us an idea about what the competitors were doing and what kind of opportunities the app had.

Sample questions that we use to test the hypothesis:

  • How do you respond if a stranger suddenly talks about personal problems with you?
  • What characteristics of a stranger make you feel uncomfortable talking?
  • How would you feel if a stranger found out about your problems?

Since this case study was conducted during the coronavirus pandemic, we did user research online by distributing questionnaires and conducting online user interviews with 5 of a target audience, from the results of this research, we found many new things.

Personas

Then, we also created user personas to help us create user-focused solutions. This persona is made based on the users we have interviewed.

How Might We (HMW)

After that, we used HMW to trigger us to find various possible solutions for the pain points found. We continued to say HMW statements until we found a solution that we thought was the best. But sometimes, when you have found a solution and studied it in more depth, many possible problems will occur if the solution is realized so that the answer is likely to expand there; a problem boundary needs to be clearly defined.

  • How Might We make people who have the same problem support each other
  • How Might We connect with others easily
  • How Might We find people who have experienced similar problems
  • How Might We make other people want to listen to your story

After that, we map each solution that we have created into a priority diagram with impact and effort variables to find the solution most likely to work now. This mapping is based on my assumptions, considering how much effort the developer put into developing these solutions.

Jobs to be done

After that, to focus more on user motivation, I use jobs to be done from the insights that have been obtained in the previous steps.

  • When people close to me can’t understand my feelings and are easily judgmental, I want to share it with strangers who have experienced the same problem so I can feel more comfortable sharing it.
  • When I have experience with a problem, I want to share my experience with others so I can help them to solve the problem
  • When I am under stress due to a problem, I want to calm my mind to reduce stress so I can find the right solution to the problem
  • When the closest person is untrustworthy I want to tell it to strangers so I can tell it freely without feeling afraid that the story will be shared with others.
  • When I talk to strangers, I want to be able to speak reasonably so I can chat comfortably

Conclusion

In making this project, we have learned many things, especially how to apply the design thinking method and find new challenges by conducting limited online surveys only due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It feels great if our solution idea can help other people’s problems from the pain point they are currently experiencing.

Very good communication. High quality work. I'd recommend Ideal to anyone looking for a design pro.
